Everyone wants to be happy and enjoy life to fullest. All our efforts are directed to achieve this aim, however, ways and means may differ from person to person. Whether looking for riches, good qualification, compatible life partner or displaying adventurous spirit, somewhere in the root we are searching happiness. However, the more we chase happiness and enjoyment; it appears to slip away from our grips.
A rich person may or may not be happy and same holds true for a poor man without any means. Our riches and possessions do not define our happiness. There is much more to this eternal aim of happiness in life.
Here are some time-tested ways and means learned through experience which can definitely enhance the happiness quotient-

1. Clear the mind clutter.

The mind is always chaotic and extremely difficult to control. Too many unnecessary thoughts and worries clutter our minds, leaving us exhausted. It is a fact that lesser number of thoughts have a therapeutic calming effect on the mind which can enhance our happiness. However, it is easier said than done. The easiest way to calm your mind is deep breathing and meditation. Deep breathing does not need any major expertise and one can easily practice at home. For learning meditation, get hold of a yoga teacher near you and start practicing. With little patience and regular practice, you are bound to achieve spectacular results.

2. Take care of Health.

Here we are not going to discuss character and to bore you giving useless sermons. It is a fact that all riches of the world cannot give you happiness if you don’t enjoy a sound health. Even a small toothache is enough to make your life hell. Moreover, one is better positioned to take care of family, friends or business in a state of health. Better health providing you the independence to positively contribute towards family, community or the country will enhance your happiness. So don’t wait for a magic pill or some mantra for happiness, get up and start running, or practicing yoga or hit a nearby local gym.

3. Develop Faith.

Whatever happens, happens for good. All challenges and difficulties make us stronger and more experienced. There is nothing called wrong or bad happenings or experiences. Have a firm faith that whatever is happening is in your best interests. Believe me, once you start guiding life with this philosophy, life will itself prove you right. A little change in attitude and belief systems will dramatically alter your life.

4. Tough times.

Go back to your childhood days. Are not they were the happiest times? When did you enjoy a simple thing like drinking water the most? The answer is ‘when you were drenched in sweat after playing in an open playground with your friends’. Sleep appeared so sweet even on stones after a trek or school camp where you could not have rest for two nights. Little small enjoyments after harsh times give us a feeling of bliss.

5. Relationships.

Once one of my friend was transferred to a remote area and was very unhappy. After three months when we met, he was extremely happy and thanked God for the transfer. Reason? Excellent working environment and good people around made him happy. He learnt an important lesson “place does not matter, it is the people around. Hence relationships are very important to maintain happiness. Invest in relations. Rather than connecting on Whatsapp and facebook, visit friends or relatives personally or call them to your house for a cup of tea.

    Happiness is like a butterfly, which if chased you might not grasp.. but if u relax and sit down quietly, may come to you.
